July 18th Valezan feast

The traditional costume festival in Valezan

This festival was very well organised by the village festival board : their prayers for fine weather were granted!

The beautiful dresses and headresses which are weighed down by linen flour couldn't afford to get wet, they were taken out especially for the festival, but this precious legacy has to be handed down to future generations because it is a sign of each family's wealth.

Those who attended the festival were able to learn a lot about the Tarentaise traditional costumes, they were able to see them worn, admire there beauty and discover all the hidden work that goes into the embroidery of the dresses and shawls.

They were also able to realise the amount of patience that is needed to put on the headresses because a demonstration was done on the spot.

Mr Delavest kindly explained the secrets behind the traditional Tarentaise jewellery : crosses, earrings and necklaces.

The folk dancers from Peisey Nancroix showed off the traditional costumes and Gilles told stories in patois ( the local dialect) all of which displayed the richness of our patrimony.

The traditional costume theme was also the theme for all the activities and games, and the Miss Tarine was elected by the president Guenievre de Fontenoy with much amusement to all.

And last but not least, Maurice prepared a giant tartiflette and the evening dance was well watered (by rain showers of course!).

Enclosed are somme photo samples of the festival.
